Writes: Danish Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association - is a
nonprofit association whose purpose is to promote wind energy
in Denmark and around the world. They have put together one of
the best resources about wind energy on the web. If you have
any questions about this truly renewable resource, take their
guided tour to wind energy. The tour starts by explaining the
basics and then winds it's way through everything from potential
output to wind energy economics. This is definitely the place
to look to further your understanding of this subject.

Gift
to the World: 750 MW of Offshore Wind Power
The Danish Minister of the Environment and Energy, Svend Auken,
has announced an agreement with the Danish electrical power companies
to build five large offshore wind parks of 150 MW each. The parks
will be built after year 2000, and will supply some 8 per cent
of Danish electricity consumption. Wind power is already covering
some 7 per cent of electricity consumption in Denmark.

Danish
Utilities Plan Large Offshore Wind Parks
The Danish electric utility groups ELSAM and ELKRAFT
are planning several offshore wind parks of a size from 120 to
150 MW each.
The parks are expected to be online around 2001 to 2003. In addition,
the feasibility of a 45 MW offshore park 2 miles off the coast
of the capital, Copenhagen, is being investigated by the local
Copenhagen electric utility company, and a group of private citizens.
National energy plans state that Denmark should have 4,000 MW
offshore wind power online by the year 2030.

EU
Green Paper too Timid:
Manufacturers Suggest 25 per cent Wind in Europe's Electricity
System
The Danish Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association
has published its Opinion on the Commission Green Paper on Renewable
Energy. Although the association finds the general line positive,
it believes the Commission aims could go much further, and suggests
concrete obligations for Member States.

Offshore
Wind Power is Becoming Economic
The Danish Energy Agency and the Danish electricity
companies are preparing for a major breakthrough for commercial
wind power offshore.
Preparatory
work by an expert committee shows that the costs of offshore
wind power may be substantially lower than previously estimated.
Although no final report has been issued yet, the outline of
the report is known. Read more in the Articles
section of this web site.

Danish
Railroads may Cover their Total Electricity Needs Using 80 Wind
Turbines
The Danish National Railroad Company is considering investing
in eighty wind turbines of 1,500 kW each to cover the total electricity
needs of the Danish public rail system.
The
railroads are currently investigating the costs of such a move
together with one of the major electricity groups, ELKRAFT. The
Danish railroads own substantial stretches of land throughout
the country which could easily be used for siting wind turbines.
