OBJECTIVES

The Electric Machines & Transformer Research Laboratory (EMTRL) in Electrical Engineering Department at Amirkabir University of Technology was formed by  Prof. Mojtaba Mirsalim  in 2001. The lab. has evolved from University research grants. The staff of EMTRL are involved in research and development projects in various aspects of design and prototyping of electromagnetic devices. It is our goal to explore new electric machines and motor drives topologies for various applications. These applications may vary from new motor drive topologies for computer hard disk to Hybrid vehicles.  In the following, you may kindly find a brief description of our field of specialization along with a list of projects done by our engineers.

FIELD OF SPECIALIZATION

  • Analytical  (Fourier transforms & series, definite & indefinite integrals with the help of MATLAB & MAPLE softwares)  and numerical ( finite element modeling using ANSYS, MAXWELl, and VECTOR FIELDS softwares) analysis of electromagnetic devices.
  • Design and prototyping of electromagnetic devices such as Electrical Machines (linear and rotational)  and Transformers.
  • Troubleshooting and maintenance of electromagnetic devices.

DEVELOPED SOFTWARES

  • Design of Single-Phase and Three-Phase Low to High Power Transformers
  • Design of Linear and Rotational Electrical Machines
  • Winding Design of Induction Machines
  • Designing and Calculations of Electric Magnets and Transformers (Software in Visual Basic language)

TRAINING

  • Here, at EMTRL, the staff have organized short courses and workshops in various aspects of electromagnetic devices such as Machine & Transformer design, Dielectric, Soft and Permanent Magnet materials, and electromagnetic computation methods.
